Shri Tarkeshwar Mahadev Temple is one of the most worshipped places of Jaipur. This temple is located in the Pink city of Jaipur behind the City Palace. The main deity of the temple is Lord Shiva in the form of a Linga of Black stone of 9" diameter. The temple has additional attractions like the Golden pictographs, a brass Nandi and big bronze gongs and bells. The temple is marble floored and by the side of the Chowk Jagmohan assembly hall is located. This hall has four bronze bells of 125 kg each hanging in it. An idol of Lord Ganesh is also present in this hall
Cause of Establishment:It is generally believed on the basis of oral tradition that Shri Tarkeshwar Ji is an earth born deity. Formally here was a hamlet Dhundar Meenas. Shri Tarkeshwar Ji appeared from the earth and the Meenas enshrined the deity's image. and this temple is belived to be a mirracle temple in the city and the shiva linga present in this temple is found in the earth embeded and this place was previously was a graveyard or SHAMSHAN and there was lots of TAR VRAKSH at the premesis arrond here so the name of the temple known as SHRITARKAESHWARMAHADEV. And it is belived that LORD SHIVA with his ardhangini MAA PARVATI JEE were used to roam ithe pramesis of this shamshan and at that time the city of jaipur was not in existance and people used to live in AMER and here at shamshan only TAR VRAKSH was there and no one use to come here at one day a boy of smalll age came there and he saw that LORD SHIVA AND MAA PARVATI JEE was playing SHATRANJ and and they saw him and asked the boy that who is going to win and he said that MATA JEE is going to win becouse she is beautifull and wearing lots of jewelry so if she win he can get some good prize from MATA JEE said by boy. So finallly BABA TARKESHWAR JEE( LORD SHIVA) won this game but MATA JEE gave him a jewelry now boy went to his home and asked about this incidence and no body belived him and on next day all people gathered and come to the place but there was nothing seen by people but boy was still able to see and talk to MAHADEV JEE & MAA PARVATI JEE so they come to home thinking that there is any superstition of boy but next day one eagle droped lots of jewelry to there house. so every one was shoked to see this and and next day king enquired about this. so whole incedent was narrated to the king of AMER. Now king send some guard to SHAMSHAN to take a watch for 24 hour and report if they saw any thing there. soldier seen nothing but a cow use to come there daily she stand at a particular same place daily in morning and evening and when she stands the milk from her teats used to oozes out automatically to the ground. so by hearing this incedent king ordered to dug this place and at that time the SHIVA LINGA of this temple was seen by the people. And king ordered to built this temple.
THEN PEOPLE COME TO KNOW THAT THS IS A MIRRACLE SHIVA LINGA When RAJA SWAI JAI SINGH built the city of jaipur he seen that this temple is coming in front of the tripolia gate so he ordered to dug this SHIVA LINGA and shift it to the city palace. when workers dugged this DIETY and they didint found any and of this DIETY so the king seen mirracle of LORD SHIVA and shifted the tripoliya gate to aside and built the building more arcitecturally sound.Now the worship is done by a BRAHMAN family living in the temple premesis this family is worsihping from generation And now MAHARAJ VIKRANT JI worshiping with his family. and lots of young people of there family use to come here and doing SEVA of MAHADEV JI.
Brief of the Diety: Shivling of Tarkeshwar Mahadev is made by Black stone. It is having a 9" diameter.

By the side of the chowk is the Jagmohan (Assembly) hall. In this hall are hanging four bronze gongs each weighting 125 kilograms.The ganesh idol as shown here seated and has left turned trunk.
Important Architectural Characteristics: On the ceiling are the old pictorial depictions, charming and wondrous. From architectural angle, the temple is unique.

Unique features of the temple: A huge Shiva lingam, golden pictographs, a big bull of brass, big bronze gongs and bells give the temple a special identity. Every Monday is the day of special worship of Lord Shiva. Water and milk ablutions (Abhisheka) are held and Sandal pase, Kapoor, Agarer etc. applied to the lingam.
